Touring photo exhibition

Description of activity:

In the first phase, we collected material historical sources relevant for the touring photo exhibition. We analysed and processed available newspaper articles from that time, examined archival sources and based on that material found the link between the war operations and crimes against civilian populations. Afterwards we collected historical imagery from the World War II period and the following years. In this way, we created multimedia timeline, which encompasses interdisciplinary context of suffering and the transformation of the Julian March. After the research in the archives, libraries, museums and hemerotecas (“special libraries”), followed the “fieldwork phase”. We identified potential informants, the witnesses of the burnings, and made interviews with them, as well as gathered their personal photographs of the burnt villages. Moreover, we mapped and documented any remainders of the tragedies. In the last phase, we ordered and selected the material for the exhibition, the translations and the production of the catalogue of the exhibition. The collected material was processed and prepared for the exhibitions.

Expected results:

The touring exhibition was be set in Mačkolje/Caresana in Italy, Šmarje near Koper in Slovenia, Lipa, Žminj, Pazin and Pula in Croatia between June 2016 and January 2017. We prepared multilingual catalogue of exhibition, and photographs are available on the project’s website as well. At the openings of the exhibition, fully covered by the media, in each place special attention was paid to attract the locals and younger generations. To this end, we connected with local associations and educational institutions.
