Documentary film

Description of activity:

Audio-visual documentation of reminiscences was the focus of the project, as the generation of living witnesses of the World War II is rapidly diminishing. The production of the film hence valuably contributed to the archive of oral history, indispensable for future studies and research. Besides the oral testimonies, within this activity we documented family photographs, personal documents and other objects indicating the tragedy of the time. Presentations of the film (the tour) in “burnt villages” in Italy (Mačkolje/Caresana), Slovenia (Miren near Nova Gorica, Šmarje near Koper) and Croatia (Žejane) with debates have raised awareness of local and regional history.

Expected results:

A short documentary was produced and presented to the public in some of the local communities (“burnt villages”) where the testimonies and other documentation had been gathered. A short debate followed the presentations and stimulate intergenerational interaction and intercultural dialogue. In order for the contemplation of the cruelty of the 20th century to transcend national and language borders, the fillm was translated to English and thus accessible for the wider European public. The documentary was also shown on television, at the openings of memorial signs, film festivals, museum exhibitions and schools. After the presentation in the different public venues it is accessible at the Internet.

Duration: 1. 3. 2016 – 31. 1. 2017
